Linsey Goodlet and her daughter Islay took on a 250km cycling challenge to raise money for Harlawhill’s new minibus appeal in honour of Linsey’s dad and Islay’s granda, Billy Cunningham.
Billy lives with advanced dementia and attends Harlawhill, where music remains one of the things that can still bring him to life. Although he is now mostly non-communicative, staff regularly see him singing, dancing and responding when music is played.
For Billy and many of our members, suitable transport is not simply a convenience. It is a lifeline that allows them to continue attending the Centre and gives their families vital support and respite.
Linsey and Islay completed their 250km challenge using a tandem tag-a-long and raised more than £1,000 for the new bus appeal. Reaching that milestone also meant a seat on the future bus could be named in Billy’s honour.
Their determination turned a family challenge into something that will help many Harlawhill members in the years ahead.
