We are delighted to announce that we are this year’s winners of Age Scotland’s award for Services For Older People 2022. You can read all about it HERE and see the short video they made about us. We are super proud of our team of staff and volunteers who made this possible.

Some of our local GP’s are running this year’s Edinburgh marathon and raising funds for our members along the way. If you are able to support them then it would be most appreciated and you can donate HERE. The support in the community always humbles us and we are immensly proud to be part of such a great place to live and work.

Harlawhill Day Care Centre won this year’s prestigious Top Team Award in the Scottish Health Awards 2021 run by the Scottish Daily Record and the NHS Scotland.

It is with great delight that we are proud to announce that our fantastic team at Harlawhill have been selected as one of three finalists in the Top Team award at this years Scottish Health Awards. The winner will be announced on Friday 4th November and we wish them all the best of luck.

Our Manager, Mrs Fiona Mitchell was recently Highly Commended after reaching the Final of the SCVO Scottish Charity Awards 2021 in the category of Employee Of The Year. This was an amazing achievement given that there were  hundreds of entries from all over Scotland and thoroughly deserved as she does an incredible job.

Thanks to the Walk With Scott Foundation for stepping in to help pay for our new windows which allowed us to open our doors once more on Monday 3rd May 2021 after 14 months of closure. This has made such a difference to the lives of our clients and their families for which we are all eternally grateful.

Tom Shearer from Port Seton Rotary Club presents Harlawhill with two brand new Kindle Fire tablets. These will make such a difference and allow us to access many useful apps with our clients to benefit their mental health as well as assist in our reminiscence work. Thanks to all involved.

Last year we successfully applied for National Lottery funding and are pleased to announce that we will soon be working on installing a new electronic front door with video intercom and widening the entrance for easier use by all who attend.

A massive thanks to all the children who took part in our Valentine’s Day project by creating over 150 cards for our clients. They were all delighted with the results and it brought a smile and even a small tear to their eyes with the love and skill that had gone into making them. Due to the large number of cards we distributed some to the Johnny Moat care home and the Pennypit meals to deliver to their clients. An amazing example of community spirit from all involved.

LIFE IS A TREASURE

We received funding from Scotmid in 2018 as part of their Community Connect programme. This was to help us fund a reminiscing project to record the life stories of our members and create books and songs for them and their families to use and keep. These life stories are a vital tool in helping people who are living with memory related illness.

HARLAWHILL TURNS 30

Established in 1992 we celebrate our 30th year this year, caring for the elderly of Prestonpans. We could not have made it this far without the support of the local community who have played a major part in our success with their unyielding contributions over the years. We would like to thank you all for everything you have done for us and to celebrate this milestone we have recorded a song (with a little help from our friends). Harlawhill has been written, produced and recorded by Bruce Davies and Alex Hodgson with additional music by David Vernon and backing vocals by members and staff at Harlawhill. You can listen to the song by clicking on the button below.
