What began as a traditional Harlawhill Burns Supper went on to become part of an international University of Glasgow project marking 225 years of Burns Suppers around the world.
Our Burns Supper attracted local attention when haggis maestro Joe Findlay delivered the traditional address at Harlawhill.
The celebration then reached a much wider audience. In February 2026, the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Robert Burns Studies contacted Harlawhill after reading about the event and invited us to take part in its project celebrating the 225th anniversary of the first Burns Supper.
The University was crowdsourcing a global database of Burns Suppers taking place in 2026, with submitted events to be plotted on a new digital map. Harlawhill’s celebration was included as part of that international picture of how Burns Night continues to bring communities together.
For us, it was a lovely example of a local activity becoming part of something much bigger, while still doing what matters most: giving our members a memorable, sociable and enjoyable day together.
